Sunday, August 30th from 1-3pm: Improv Quilting with Scraps - $60
Join us on Sunday August 30th for a fun new workshop - improv quilting with scraps! Improv quilting refers to quilting without a set plan, using the materials at hand. It's a great practice for releasing perfectionism and giving yourself permission to play, all while using up your scraps! All the leftover bits from that beautiful fabric that you can't let go of (but don't know what to do with) can find a place in a new project. Improv quilting is also a wonderful low-stakes entry into the world of quilting. If you've always been curious about quilting but felt intimidated by all the complex shapes and measurements, and you love creative reuse, this workshop is for you! In this workshop, we will use paper backing to create improv blocks. You'll get to browse through UpCycle's fun and unique collection of fabric scraps, and learn how to create simple improv-ed quilt blocks in a stress-free environment. You can use this workshop to simply get comfortable with the process for a future scrap quilt of your own, or create two blocks for a quilted potholder. Prerequisite: basic familiarity with a sewing machine (if you've taken our Sewing Machine 101 class, you're all set!). All materials, tools, and machines are provided by UpCycle, but you are more than welcome to bring some of your own scraps you've been meaning to use up, and/or your own sewing machine if you're more comfortable using that. (Note: if you are bringing your own machine, please reach out to us at [email protected] to let us know ahead of time) |

Sunday, October 18th from 1-3pm: Cabinet of Curiosities - $40 A cabinet of curiosities is a collection of wacky and unique found objects, often displayed together on a shelf with many small compartments. In this Sunday afternoon workshop, local artist Mallory will show you how to UpCycle a cigar box of your choice into a mini cabinet of curiosities to display. You'll learn how to build custom sized compartments for your trinkets, decorate your new curio shelf with mixed media and found objects, and start filling it with oddities! All materials are provided, but all artists are welcome to bring in personal trinkets or mixed media to decorate and fill in their shelves! |
