Professional Development

Working, creating and playing with reusable materials helps children acquire skills such as creativity, confidence, problem solving, focus and persistence. Children communicate their understanding of concepts and the world with materials. Our workshops are intended for teachers who would like to incorporate stimulating arts media and open ended materials into the classroom. A certificate with contact hours will be provided upon the conclusion on the workshops.  Workshops offered in the past have included:

Introduction to UpCycling with Young Learners -
Using Open Ended Materials With Children

Workshop participants learn how to collect, prepare, store and display a wide array of reusable materials that young children can use to explore and communicate their understanding of the world. The presentation highlights the benefits of including open-ended materials with children and provides innovative, yet practical, ideas for using them with young children. We start by describing core skills that young children develop by experimenting with reuse materials, and then show how these skills lay the foundation for facilitated group and self-directed work in later years. Participants have an opportunity to try out the activities described in the presentation.
